This year we are focused on tunnelling, completing excavation of station areas, preparing station foundations for the arrival of the tunnel boring machines, and building the elevated guideway. We provide ongoing updates about construction in advance to email subscribers, through alerts to traffic news outlets, social media posts and here on our website. Please see notifications below and contact us if you have specific questions about what’s happening currently on and near Broadway. Register to receive construction notices for specific station areas and general updates here.
You can access businesses, services and residences on Broadway throughout construction. Visit our maps page to see an interactive map and other resources, such as parking and access maps for the station areas along the Broadway corridor which provide alternative travel and parking options for people visiting Broadway businesses, services or residences.
BSPC is getting ready to launch the first tunnel boring machine (TBM) from Great Northern Way.
This is a critical milestone in the project and begins the next phase of construction activity.
We encourage you to check out the viewing windows installed in the fencing along Great Northern Way near Thornton St. to see Project progress.
Residents and businesses in the area should expect a period of elevated noise as the TBM begins boring under Great Northern Way. The noise related to boring is expected to decrease as the machine moves fully underground.
The TBMs will be tunneling approximately 15-20 metres underground. Vibrations should be unnoticeable at the surface, however minor vibrations similar to when large equipment is operating in the area may be felt at some times.
Tunnel boring activities will take place 24/7 for approximately the next fourteen months during excavation of both tunnels.
The Broadway Subway Project Corporation is building the elevated guideway that connects VCC-Clark Station to the future Great Northern Way Station. Construction started December 15th. On January 10, the construction of 21 columns that support the guideway will begin.
