- The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) will be starting work to fracture bedrock to prepare for tunnelling operations at the future station.
- This work is anticipated to continue until the end of March between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m each weekday.
- During this work, people can expect to hear a pre-detonation warning marked with a series of twelve horn soundings and then a low frequency ‘thud’.
- Once the activity is complete, there will be one long horn sound to indicate a return to regular work.

Central Valley Greenway detour in effect May 17, 2021

Geophysical survey work at the future Great Northern Way – Emily Carr Station (click to view notice)
- Public access to Thornton St., north of E. 1st St. will be limited for the duration of the work. Hours of work are Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 15 to April 30, 2021.
- Access for residents and businesses will be maintained.
- Intermittent thump or clunk sounds every 20 to 30 minutes for two to six hours during each day of work.
- Access to the Central Valley Greenway will be intermittently limited for brief intervals (up to one minute) during some of the work.

Great Northern Way Tree Removal (click to view notice)
- The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) will be removing a number of trees to allow for the safe construction of the future station, assembly of the tunnel boring machines, tunnel excavation works, and construction of the elevated guideway.
- In the Great Northern Way-Emily Carr station area, selected red oak, shandong maple, katsura, red maple, callery pear, pacific dogwood, cherry, black cottonwood, and English holly trees will be removed. Healthy trees that do not impede construction activities will be protected and retained.
- A portion of the sidewalk on the northwest corner of Great Northern Way at Thornton St. may be intermittently closed.
- Sections of curb/parking lanes on the north side of Great Northern Way in front of Thornton St. may be intermittently closed and parking may be temporarily unavailable.

- Work includes the installation of fencing around the perimeter of the work site and the closure of some areas to prepare the site for construction of the elevated guideway, tunnel portal and future Great Northern Way–Emily Carr Station and tunnel boring machine assembly.
- April 1 – The parking lot north of Emily Carr University of Art + Design will be closed and fenced off as part of the construction area.
- April 8 – E. 1st Avenue north of Emily Carr University of Art + Design from the university’s loading bay west to the roundabout will be fenced and closed to the public.

- In preparation for construction of the elevated guideway portion of the Broadway Subway Project, a portion of the building located at 901 Great Northern Way is being removed and replaced with a new foundation and façade.
- A temporary construction hoarding wall has been installed to separate the construction area from businesses.
- Work on this building is expected to be finished by summer 2021.

- Pre-location of utilities will occur over 2 days, from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. (revised timing TBC)
- This work involves cutting through the asphalt, removing the asphalt with an excavator, and removing soil with a hydrovac truck so that surveyors can measure the location and depth of the utilities in preparation for construction.
- East 1st Avenue west of Carolina Street will be single lane alternating traffic, with no street parking for approximately one-third of the block. Please watch for crews and traffic control personnel.

- The Broadway Subway Project Corporation began work on November 5, 2020 to remove hazardous materials at 525 Great Northern Way. Work occurs weekdays from 7 am to 3 pm and take approximately eight weeks. Once the first phase is completed, the second phase of work at this location will begin and focus on building demolition. Updates will be provided here to keep you informed so you can plan accordingly.
October 18-28, 2019 – Geotechnical Investigations
On October 18, 21, 22, and 28, the Broadway Subway Project will be undertaking field work near Great Northern Way. This field work will include soil investigations and is being done to better understand sub-surface conditions prior to the start of construction of the Broadway Subway Project in 2020.

- During the period from August 9-12, crews worked during the day and at night on Main Street to remove traffic barriers and paint new road markings in preparation for opening Main Street to its pre-construction configuration.
- Traffic has returned to its pre-construction configuration along Main Street. Parking on Main Street between Kingsway and E. Broadway has been reinstated.

- The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) will be removing a number of trees to allow for the safe construction of the future station, sewer line relocations, installation of traffic decking to allow people to travel through the corridor while station excavation work is underway and, eventually, station construction.
- In the Broadway-City Hall station area, selected American elm, Japanese Cherry, English oak, Persian ironwood, black cottonwood, callery pear, and laurel trees will be removed. Healthy trees that do not impede construction activities will be protected and retained.
- A portion of the sidewalk on the west side of Yukon St. (between West Broadway and 10th) and on the north and south sides of West Broadway (between Alberta St. and Yukon St.) may be intermittently closed.

Broadway-City Hall Advance Utility Relocation

February 20, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
Crews are currently working on Ash Street between W. 8th Avenue and W. Broadway. Temporary lane closures and detours are in effect in this area. On the weekend of February 22 and 23, it is anticipated that crews will be crossing W. Broadway on Ash Street, resulting in temporary lane closures on Broadway. Work will be undertaken in stages to maintain two-way traffic flow and movement of buses. The City of Vancouver has granted a noise by-law exemption permit for this work on Sunday, February 23, from 7:00AM to 8:00 PM. February 10, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
Crews are currently working on the south side of W. 8th Avenue, between Cambie Street and Ash Street. In order to minimize disruption to commercial and residential building access, temporary night work will be undertaken to cross the parkade and loading bay driveways. Night work is anticipated to take place from February 11 to February 14, between 8:00 PM and 7:00 AM under a City of Vancouver noise by-law exemption permit. Once work in the intersection is complete (anticipated during the week of January 27), crews will begin moving west on the south side of W. 8th Avenue, towards Ash Street. March 11, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
On Saturday, March 14, crews will be working across W. Broadway on Hemlock Street. This work is being undertaken on the weekend and in stages to minimize disruption to traffic. Two-way traffic and movement of buses will be maintained on Broadway, as well as access to businesses.
February 26, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
During the weeks of March 2 and 9, crews will be working on 8th Avenue between Granville Street and Hemlock Street, and temporary parking restrictions will be in effect in this block of W. 8th Avenue. Beginning March 2, laneway access on the south side of 8th Avenue (east of Granville Street) will be temporarily restricted.
February 24, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
Crews are currently working northbound on Hemlock Street between 10th Avenue and 8th Avenue. On the weekend of Saturday, February 29 and Sunday March 1, crews are anticipated to be crossing W. Broadway at Hemlock St. This work will be undertaken in stages to maintain two-way traffic flow on Broadway. The City of Vancouver has granted a noise by-law exemption permit for this work on Sunday, March 1 from 7:00AM to 5:00PM. Please note the timing of this work is subject to change; refer to on-site signage and traffic control personnel.
February 10, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
Utility relocation work is continuing in the South Granville area, and crews are currently working on West 10th Avenue between Granville Street and Hemlock Street. Crews are anticipated to continue northbound on Hemlock Street during the week of February 17, and working across West Broadway over the weekend of February 22/23 (please note timing is subject to change). This early work is required to facilitate the construction of a new PCI Developments building at the corner of South Granville and Broadway, which will incorporate the new South Granville subway station. January 13, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
Beginning the week of January 13 through March 2020, utility relocation work will be taking place in the South Granville area. This early work is required to facilitate the construction of a new PCI Developments building at the corner of South Granville and Broadway, which will incorporate the new South Granville subway station. Work will begin on West 10th Avenue to the east of Granville Street, and move north on Hemlock Street and then west on W 8th Avenue. - Underground utility surveying began the week of December 14, 2020 and occurred over 3 weekdays from 7am to 3pm.
- Hydro vacuuming equipment was required and work was expected to be noisy.

Arbutus Greenway advance utility relocation
- BC Hydro utility work is taking place on the overhead wires along Arbutus Greenway between 6th and 10th Avenue until November 30, 2020 during weekdays and weekends. You can expect a closure between 8th and 10th Avenue, where detoured traffic will be routed along 10th Avenue to Maple St. and along 8th Avenue. Two way traffic will be maintained along the detour for cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles. The Arbutus Greenway has a closure occur between 6th and 7th Avenue along the Greenway in the southbound lane. Greenway traffic will be reduced to one-way northbound traffic only between Maple and Cypress, with two way traffic along Cypress and 7th Avenue.
Arbutus and W 7th Ave
- As part of BC Hydro’s utility relocation work, there will be repairs to sidewalks and roadways from Friday, November 13 through Tuesday November 17, 2020. Access to Arbutus St, West 7th Avenue, and West 8th Avenue will be restricted to local traffic only with traffic control personnel and construction signs in place to direct sidewalk users and vehicle traffic through the area. Please use caution and follow signs and directions of traffic control personnel.
July 23, 2020 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project
Weekend work will occur July 25-26 to remove overhead trolley wires at the intersection of Broadway/Arbutus.
July 16, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
BC Hydro work is expected to be ongoing until the end of August on Arbutus between W. 7th Avenue and W. 8th Avenue, and on 7th between Arbutus and the Greenway.
May 26, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
BC Hydro work is continuing on Arbutus between W. 7th Avenue and W. 10th Avenue, and is anticipated to be crossing W. Broadway on the weekend of May 30 (continuing on the weekend of June 6, if required). Two-way traffic will be maintained, with temporary lane closures in effect. Work on Arbutus Street at 8th Avenue is anticipated in June, as well as some work adjacent to the Arbutus Greenway near 7th Avenue and 10th Avenue.
May 13, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
Between May 14 and June 1, 2020, TELUS will be undertaking underground infrastructure work between Cypress Street and Burrard Street on W. Broadway. It is anticipated that work will be taking place mostly in the westbound traffic lane. Please follow the directions of on-site signage and traffic control personnel.
May 4, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation
During the weeks of May 11 and May 18, 2020, BC Hydro will begin work on W. 7th Ave. between the Arbutus Greenway and Arbutus Street, and continue on Arbutus Street between W. 7th Ave. and W. Broadway. - A traffic truck with direction lights will inform of the lane shift, while crews take the piezometer reading.

Expect to see crews on W. 12th Avenue and Cambie Street installing foundations, poles and electrical conduits. Weekend work is currently planned for Saturday, May 25th at W. 12th Avenue/Laurel in order to minimize any potential impact to emergency service vehicles accessing VGH.
To date, approximately 140 trolley bases and 81 poles have been installed.
May 1, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project
Crews are continuing to work at the intersections of W 12th Avenue/Laurel, W 12th Avenue/Ash, W.12th Avenue/Granville, and aim to start up at W 12th Avenue/Cambie by mid-May. In addition to these intersections, crews will be working at localized sites on W 12th from Arbutus to Granville installing conduits, adjusting traffic signals, and trimming trees. Some weekend work will be undertaken in order to minimize any potential impact to Emergency Service Vehicles that frequently use W.12th in this vicinity.
April 11, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project
Early work construction began on February 19. Crews have been working on 12th Avenue between Arbutus and Granville and on 12th Avenue between Oak and Heather. Work is moving swiftly. To date, approximately 61 trolley bases and 79 poles have been installed along 12th Avenue and at 9 intersections in the area.
March 29, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project
Early work construction began on February 19. Crews started on 12th Avenue between Arbutus and Granville and at the 12th Avenue and Willow intersection, between Oak and Cambie.
Work is moving swiftly. To date, approximately 85 trolley bases and 35 poles have been installed along 12th Avenue and at seven intersections in the area
